As informed in an article below about the launch of HCL ME X1 tablet .This is in continuation of HCL ME tablet which was launched year back . It is worth mentioning here HCL was probably the first company to launch the low cost tablet in India and Technopundits were the only blogging site at that time to come up with the review of that gadget ( Read here : Technopundits launches ME tablet ). Now this article focusses on the new tablet HCL ME X1 and help you make an decision whether to spend your money on it or not
Touch Screen : It has a 7inch capacitive screen as compared to resistive screen of HCL ME Tablet. The functioning on touch screen is not smooth but it is better than their earlier tablets. I was not very impressed with the aluminum frame of tablet which looks cheap and also finish of touch screen. The is only with one button on the centre of extreme left ,and then there is a USB slot, Mini HDMI, SDcard slot, charging socket, 3.5 mm port and power button.
Processor/Memory : It has Cortex A8 1Ghz processor .Now HCL ME tablet had Marvel processor but there is no detail about this one provided. I assume its another low cost processor used as sources confirm that manufacturer is same as it for HCL ME tablet.
The 512MB DDR3 RAM is descent for this cost and one would be able to run application better .
Connectivity: Like earlier tablet this device also does not have a SIM slot so you cant make or attend calls. How it has a USB slot which supports 3G or GPRS USB Dongle. There are news being floated that HCL will also provide the USB dongle but will customer has to pay extra for it is yet not known. Personally i would never like an additional modem to be connected to my tablet though there is wifi available .
he HCL ME X1 comes with 1080p full HD playback and full HDMI support. Full HD support ensures that your videos can be easily and clearly viewed while HDMI makes it easy to connect to a PC or a TV
Other Features / Specs : The device has an front facing 2Megapixel ,though there is no camera at back.It has 3400mAH battery which is descent and should give battery life of 4 to 5 hrs of video playback easily.The device has android 2.3.
Customized Indian apps:I liked the apps with specific application to suit Indian customers. It showed that HCL has put some effort.The X1 is equipped with a Hungama, Jeevansathi and Cleartrip app amongst many others. They have come out with the Think Free office and ME app store. The ME app store has consists of 10,000 pre-selected apps.
However the device has following shortcommings
1)No Android Market
2)No GPS
3)No SIM SLOT
So the moment of verdict. To Buy or Not to Buy.
Has it been launched couple of month backs , i would have rated this higher ,but when consumer today have plenty choices even at low cost, i would advise you to give a miss here and wait we may have another low cost tablet being launched soon.
