India’s Cheapest ICS Based Tablet. Micromax Funbook : Cheap Yet Powerful. Really?

Micromax. A company know in the market for it’s phones has diversified its portfolio by launching a android based tablet known by the name of Funbook. But how does it differentiate itself from other tablets. For starters it’s the cheapest ICS based tablet available in the market & costs only Rs 6499. Not only that it also features a 1.2 GHZ Corex A8 processor with 512 MB of RAM & 4GB of  internal memory expandable to 32 GB via SD Card.

The screen in 7 inch capacitive supporting multi touch & the device features a Dual Mail 400 – 2D/3D graphics processor that handle the day to day multimedia task.  The screen pixel resolution is 800×480.

For connectivity options the device supports wifi along with support for 3G via 3G dongle. It can play hi definition movies and can be hooked up to large screen television via a HDMI port.

The front facing camera for video chats is VGA (0.3 megapixel) and the device come preloaded with a number of apps like Documents on the Go, Adobe PDF, Adobe Flash, YouTube, Text Editor, etc.

There is also Micromax’s e-learning app which will provide study materials for student of class 1 to degree courses & will have preparatory materials for medical, engineering and MBA. It clearly seems that Micromax plans to target huge educational sector with this tab & will give fairly good competition to tablet launched by HCL Me U1 & My EduTab.

The battery is of 2800 mAh & the company claims it will provide five hours of browsing.

We must say that for the price, the configuration seems to be pretty good & will appeal to a lot of first time users. However where the device lacks is in absence of in built GPS. Also its not clear whether the tablet comes with android marketplace. If it dosent it means that you’ll not be able to download thousand of apps & will be limited to just a few apps being provided by a no of content providers such as hungama, zenga, vriti, big flix & india games.

But we still think that for Rs 6499 it’s a good deal for first time users considering you also get a Tata Photon data card for free with 1GB of free data download for two months.
