Ugly Meter: iPhone App Review And Analysis

A new iPhone app addressed Ugly Meter takes to be capable to tell you how baleful an individual is. This $0.99 app acquirable in the App Store allows you take a pic of a person, and then analysis its forms in real-time and exposes a score out a great deal. Because this is Ugly Meter, the score is all but ugliness, the mellower the score, the more ugly the someone in the photo is.

Gilbert, Arizona – App developer Dapper Gentlemen created an overnight sensation; Ugly Meter, which rose to #3 Worldwide on the iTunes charts in record time, almost overnight.

According to Dapper Gentlemen, the maker of the app, the Ugly Meter uses facial recognition software to measure the symmetry of the face and other features.

Score a 1 out of 10 and you can hold your own with supermodels. But score of 10 out of 10 and be prepared for a nasty response such as “You’re so ugly, when you walk by a bathroom the toilet flushes.” Ouch.

How it works ?

When you boot up that app, you have an option for a male or female subject. Upon selection, you are taken to the camera screen with a green face template to align yours to. All that’s left is to take the picture and watch it realistically scan your facial features. As it scan the meter goes up and down, until it settles on your final score. When it is finished, it tells you your score out of ten and then a complement or burn to go with it. The higher the score, the uglier your are. From there, the only option is to scan again. When the camera screen loads again, you also have the option to cancel. Simple as that.

Now Where do we as consumers draw the line? Why is there a need to have such malicious things in our possession? . This app’s creator maintains that this was only done in fun. However, the reality is that people will use this for malicious purposes. While the app’s creators say they are just having fun, we find this app offensive because of the chance it could be used maliciously, if in the wrong hands. The Family Online Safety Institute agrees with us and notes that this app could be used for cyberbullying. The group has even called for Apple to put an age limit on the app, making it only available for those over 18.
